The city of Nîmes started working with the Motorola irrigation control system for its green spaces in 2005 In order to enable control over irrigation throughout the city’s parks.
Currently, 71 hydraulic networks and nearly 900 solenoid valves, spread over 40 hectares of urban green spaces including trees, shrubs, grass, flower beds and sports fields, are controlled by 74 controllers. The ICC PRO management software is installed in the green areas department of the city of Nîmes and serves the department’s workers, supervisors and contractors who take part in the development and maintenance of the city’s parks.
Since the beginning of the implementation of the Motorola control system, the city of Nim has enjoyed a decrease in water consumption of about 20 to 25% compared to programming that was adjusted manually between two and four times a year. The change of water quantities in the city of Nîmes are automatically adjusted daily according to the local ET calculated by the City weather station which communicates directly with the ICC PRO software by API.
A large number of irrigation controllers in the city of Nîmes use UHF radio, but as communication methods have evolved since 2005, some sites located along the trambus lines are connected to the metropolitan fiber network, allowing extremely fast connections with the central office.
The 19 years of experience with the Motorola irrigation control system has allowed the city to highlight the main advantages of using it. Indeed, the system stands out for its remarkable level of compatibility, even with the oldest hardware, thanks to continuous software developments which have eliminated any obsolescence to date. Its flexibility is also a major asset, allowing a single controller to control several hydraulic lines, including various flow meters and pumps, or several controllers to manage a single hydraulic line. In addition, the system offers very good versatility by controlling 24V wired, 24V decoder, 9V elements and by offering a wide variety of communication modes. The extensive variety of controllers, system structuring, and control options, including almost total customization, including mapping, offers unprecedented adaptability. Finally, the dedicated application for smartphone or tablet, offering modern and accessible solutions to meet the diverse needs of users.
