The Piccolo XR is a small, wireless two-way radio remote terminal unit (RTU) that is an integral part of the IRRInet platform. The Piccolo XR operates up to 8 latched outputs and may receive up to 12 digital inputs (model dependent).

The Piccolo Interface Unit (PIU) connects to an IRRInet field unit and communicates with other Piccolo XR units via its internal two-way, low-power radio.

Piccolo XR and PIU are equipped with internal 10/100 mW configurable radios. For extended radio coverage, the Piccolo XR can operate in networking mode using numerous hops.

Piccolo XR and XR Plus is available in seven different I/O modules:

  • 1 DI / 1 DO
  • 2 DI / 2 DO
  • 4 DI / 4 DO
  • 7 DI / 1 DO
  • 6 DI / 6 DO
  • 8 DI / 8 DO
  • 12 DI / 4 DO

Thousands of XRs are installed around the world in use in applications that range from agriculture and municipal irrigation control systems to water supply systems.
Both the Piccolo XR and the PIU are equipped with configurable internal 10/100 mW radios to extend radio coverage. They can function as part of the communication network, using store and forward protocols.

Piccolo XR is a high-efficiency unit with very low power requirements. It ships complete with a 6V/90 mA solar panel to prolong the battery’s lifespan, provide a stable energy source, and ensure reliable communications. With its self-contained, secure enclosure, Piccolo XR installs and is ready to work with IRRInet in just minutes.

Can the Piccolo XR communicate with any IRRInet unit?

Yes. Each of the IRRIent units can command Piccolo XR units through a PIU.

Which component must be installed in every IRRInet to control the XR units?

PIU – Piccolo Interface Unit.

Is it possible to connect digital and analog sensors to the Piccolo XR?

Yes. Each Piccolo XR unit has digital inputs (depending on the model). To connect an analog input to the Piccolo XR unit, use the Mottech Smart Card that converts the analog signal to digital.
